ABOUT THIS PROJECT

The University City Center project is a six-story building located along Olentangy River Road between Ackerman Road and Harley Drive in Columbus, Ohio. The upper five stories of the building are occupied by 266-residential units, including an amenity deck and pool on the fifth floor. The middle of the building provides a 4-tier parking garage with 958 parking spaces. On the ground floor, there is 121,380 square feet of leasable tenant space for retail, restaurants, and/or business uses.

RDFA’s role was to provide the Mechanical, Plumbing and Fire Protection design for this project. We provided Construction Administration in support of the Architect.

Notable engineering features of this Project:  Shell retail design of the first floor retail, with shaft spaces to the roof for future retail/kitchen ducts.  Stubs of water, sanitary, vent and gas were provided at regular intervals to provide design flexibility for the retail tenants.  Amenity deck includes assembly space and outside pool.  Enclosed parking garage includes ventilation system with Carbon Monoxide detection.  The building fire suppression design was completed without a fire pump, but a domestic water booster pump was provided for the 4th, 5th and 6th floors.  Building has a large first-floor “big-box” space with dedicated water, fire suppression, natural gas and electrical services.  Apartments are provided with individual water and electric meters.
